Does teeth whitening damage enamel?
Professionally supervised whitening does not damage enamel. Temporary sensitivity for one to two days is normal and settles. The risk lies in unsupervised over-the-counter kits with uncontrolled concentrations and poorly fitting trays.
How long do whitening results last?
Typically one to two years, depending on diet and habits. Tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco shorten this considerably; a six-monthly cleaning extends it.
Will whitening work on my crowns or fillings?
No. Whitening gel only acts on natural enamel. Existing crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings keep their original shade, so they may need replacing to match after whitening.
